Eucharistic Miracles – true or false?
Like many of us I, Ron Tesoriero, had only relatively recently read that in the history of the Catholic Church there were claims that during the Consecration at a Catholic Mass , bread and wine had transformed into what looked like flesh and blood -so called Eucharistic Miracles. In some cases the Church had pronounced them as authentic – like the Eucharistic Miracle of Lanciano, Italy that happened in the 8th Century and was scientifically examined by Professor Linoli in 1970.
I was left with many questions:
Who had ever heard of the Eucharistic Miracle of Lanciano and the scientific evidence?
If science had actually shown that bread and wine had changed to flesh and blood, why was it not front page news, for Science and Religion? If it was true, would not public knowledge of it change the mindset of humanity?
So was it a fraud? Was there a lack of evidence? Was the Scientific testing flawed? Why has the Catholic Church been so slow to talk about it? And how does the Catholic Church defend its claim of the miraculous
Scientific investigation of the Eucharistic Miracle of Buenos Aires, the facts, – the evidence and the findings
As a lawyer and a documentary filmmaker, I, Ron Tesoriero, was delighted to have been asked to assist in the investigation of the modern day case of the claimed Eucharistic Miracle of Buenos Aires. I had now the chance to personally probe answers to the many questions that I had about Eucharistic Miracles.
The Eucharistic Miracle of Buenos Aires happened in 1996 when a communion host appeared to have mysteriously transformed into flesh and blood.

Argentine Host taken for testing (5 October 1999)
Briefly, the claim of local priest, Padre Alejandro Pezet and others, was that a communion host was found discarded in a church following Mass. The host was collected and placed into a bowl of water and then placed in the tabernacle so that it may dissolve. Eight days later it was noticed that a blood like substance seemed to be emerging. The bowl containing the substance was then placed in another tabernacle and locked, elsewhere, where the transformation continued for another 11 days at which stage the host was no longer visible. All that was visible was a bloody looking substance suspended in the water. It was in October 1999 that we took a sample for testing following permission given by the local Archbishop, Jorge Bergoglio, now Pope Francis.
Unlike cases in early history, I had the privileged opportunity to meet and interview witnesses, to cross examine them, to film their testimonies, to visit the scene of the happenings, and to view in its initial stage the transformed material before any testing was done.
But most importantly I was given the opportunity to scientifically test the samples that were taken, and to have those samples tested with what Science could offer in the latest technologies of Pathology and DNA analysis. I filmed the whole process. We were given complete freedom as to the scientific testing and there was no Church influence.
The results were truly amazing and they continue to baffle scientists.

Eucharistic Miracle of Buenos Aires Scientific proof. Can the Eucharistic Miracle of Buenos Aires be debunked?
Forensic Pathologist Dr Frederick Zugibe, interview by Mike Willesee, Investigative Journalist, and Lawyer, Ron Tesoriero
I, Ron Tesoriero had invited renowned senior Australian Television Investigative journalist, Mike Willesee, in early 2000 to join the investigation.
On 20th April 2004, Mike Willesee and I presented a pathology slide of the sample of the Eucharistic Miracle of Buenos Aires to Dr Frederick Zugibe in New York, to examine it. No one else was present.
I chose Dr Zugibe to do the examination, following my extensive research into the relevant areas of Pathology and into the experts in respective fields.
Dr Zugibe was a New York Heart specialist and a forensic pathologist. He was also an associate professor and the author of a text book on Pathology.
We knew nothing of Dr Zugibe’s religious belief beforehand and he was told nothing of the origin of the sample. Dr Zugibe had no trouble identifying what he was seeing under the microscope.
With just Mike Willesee and myself in the room and a rolling camera, we were to hear and record Dr Zugibe’s most astounding comments, which have now been reverberated throughout the world:
“this is heart muscle from the left ventricle wall of the heart not too far from a valvular area”. He went on to say that it was part of the muscle of the heart muscle that gives the heart its beat and the body its life.
He commented that the heart tissue was infiltrated with white blood cells. From the presence of the white blood cells and the condition of the fibres of the heart tissue he was able to say that the person from whom this tissue had come was alive at the moment the sample was taken and that that person had suffered severe heart injury, a compromising of the blood supply to the heart, a matter of a few days before hand. He said that he had seen heart injury like that in cases where a person had been severely beaten around the chest.

Snapshot of the muscle of the heart of a living person not a dead person
And most astonishingly Dr Zugibe said to Mike Wilesse and myself, Ron Tesoriero, that the microscopic slide was a snapshot of the muscle of the heart of a living person not a dead person.
DNA testing of Eucharistic Miracle of Buenos Aires. Is there the DNA of Christ?
DNA testing of samples taken have been conducted in 3 independent DNA labs. Nuclear DNA tests carried out have failed to produce a human genetic profile. In the standard nuclear DNA tests for blood, routinely, a genetic profile is obtained. It is a profile which is a combination of genetic information from the contribution of mother and father. Why no genetic profile has been obtained in this case, where there had been no degradation of the white blood cells, is the subject of further investigation.
It could be argued that if there was a human genetic profile in the sample tested then it would not be the Blood of Christ, because Jesus is said to have been born without the intervention of a father.
The Scientific findings that Dr Zugibe presented to myself, Ron Tesoriero, and Journalist Mike Willesee on 24 April 2004 may prove to be –
Possibly one of the Most Significant Findings in Human History
* It has a relevance to Catholic teaching of bread and wine being transformed into the body and blood of Christ, during the Mass (transubstantiation) and to the proof of the Real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist in the Communion host (an essential Catholic belief).
* Catholics also believe the Eucharist to be a memorial of the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus and that Jesus offers his living heart in the Eucharist, a heart that has suffered for the love of us. (see Katya messages) Catholics believe that Jesus is present in the Eucharist alive, as he was at the moment of the Resurrection. (Interesting how Dr Zugibe spoke of the microscopic slide of the sample of the Eucharistic of Buenos Aires as being a snap shot of a living person who had suffered traumatic injury to the heart a matter of 2 or 3 days beforehand.)
* On the DNA issue, it provides a reference point for the determination of the question- Is the Shroud of Turin authentic or a fake?- by its comparison to the DNA of the blood of Christ, on the Shroud of Turin, the believed burial cloth of Christ and the blood of Christ on the Sudarium, held in Oviedo Spain. The Sudarium is face cloth believed to have been used to wipe the face of Christ at the time of the crucifixion which was found in the empty tomb of Christ referred to in the Gospel of John.
Consequences for Biology and Evolutionary Theory
On 7th December 2000, Mike Willesee and I, Ron Tesoriero interviewed USA Forensic Pathologist, Dr Robert Lawrence, who also examined the sample from The Eucharistic Miracle of Buenos Aires.
In that interview he also commented on the presence of white blood cells that he could see in the sample under the microscope saying, “these were intact active living white blood cells.”
The Science of Biology tells us that the cell (like a white blood cell) is the basic unit of life and that it is evidence of life.
Having regard to the finding of living cells in the Buenos Aires Case, and the evidence of what preceded the coming into existence of those cells, we are confronted with known circumstances of the spontaneous appearance of complex life from non-living matter.
It is from these facts that I, Ron Tesoriero, have formulated a novel argument that is detailed in the book Unseen.
I contend that facts and scientific findings of the Buenos Aires case present perhaps for the first time in history, direct evidence of a case where complex life (the intact living white blood cells) has come into existence spontaneously, without evolution and without ancestry, contrary to currently held assumptions about the Origin of Life and the Evolution of Life (assumptions which have been based on circumstantial evidence).
Darwinian Theory maintains that all life forms on earth today are a product of an evolutionary process over billions of years. There cannot be one exception otherwise the theory collapses.
But the complex living cells in the Argentina case coming into existence without going through an evolutionary process is evidence of an exception to the theory. It would seem that Darwinian Theory will now need to be rethought in the light of this new direct evidence.
Forensic pathologist, Dr Robert Lawrence of San Francisco,( the son of the famous nuclear physicist, Dr Ernest Lawrence, who invented the Cyclotron, which split the atom and started the nuclear age), commenting on this case and the case of the statue of Christ which was found to be weeping and shedding human blood, said “It would be wonderful if these stories turned out to be, it would be spectacular. It would make all of us rethink all our concepts that we have developed through time. I am talking about Scientists.”
Ron Tesoriero presents this argument in the book Unseen and The Blood of Christ Part 1 – The Argentina Case
RECENT EUCHARISTIC MIRACLES
Since the happening of the Eucharistic Miracle of Buenos Aires in 1996 and my reporting of the results in my book “Reason to Believe” by Ron Tesoriero there have been reports of 3 further similar occurrences in different parts of world. Each have involved a communion host which has transformed into another substance. That substance has been found in each case to be heart muscle from the same part of the heart as found in the Buenos Aires case. Each case involves different witnesses, different scientists and different laboratories.
The cases are a replication of the phenomenon that happened in Buenos Aires and so gives strength to the argument I have presented about the scientific implications of the Buenos Aires case.
